Why should one not believe that the Minister for Transport was running a scam where he did not gazette the higher exise for fuel, but collected excise at the higher rate, and simply put the increase in his "pocket"? If you remember back to when the portfolios were distributed John ANDERSON refused to accept the position of Federal Minister for Trade for Australia and the reason promulgated was that he would be too busy being the Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the National Party. The Minister for Trade portfolio had been previously handed to the leader of the National Party because of the links to the agricultural community through this political party! A breach from normal practice and then this $2.9 billion "accounting" error!
